As an independent nation, India experienced some of the darkest months in its history in 1965 with the India-Pakistan war. The loss of human life was irreparable and the economic development of young India was adversely impacted.
With the war ending just a few weeks before Diwali, there was barely any enthusiasm among people to celebrate the festival. A sense of collective loss had brought the nation close. Several donations and help poured in for the fallen soldiers and their families. In October 1965, the employees of G&B came together to donate their Diwali gift packages to the ‘Jawans’ to show solidarity towards the gallant forces protecting the violated frontiers.
